Deb Carroll Anzinger- cartographs of transient displacement

title: recombination
dimension:~Approx. 30" x 60"
media: Graphite, gouache, acrylic matte gel and tracing paper on 8" x 10" sketch sheets

I'm preoccupied with the way an individual and its environment inform each other. For this drawing I completed one composition comprised of adjoined sheets of paper which i then dissasembled and rearranged to form a completely new yet still unified "map" without changing the content of the individual sheets. My process for the above drawing functions as a conceipt for my current preoccupation. I felt it was also important for me to explore the potential fallacy of the notion of only one natural conformation.

you can see a bigger image of it at www.deborahcarroll.net

p.s. i'm working on some other paintings along the same theme that i'll share at some later point.

Jenny Walton - recent works

Artist Statement - Absense of Structure

The process of illness, injury, and healing of the human body are the catalysts for this current work. I work towards bringing momments of injury or specific events in a body’s history that are both beautiful and horrific into the work to create visual tensions. This work also deals with ideas of inside and outside, the privileged viewership of the medical profession, and the mystery that is left for the rest of us.

What is DCAC's Sparkplug?

Currently composed of eight DC area artists and curators, DCAC's SPARKPLUG meets regularly to discuss their work, explore common concerns, grow their community and dream up creative engagements both in DC and around the world. Through its support of Sparkplug, DC Arts Center provides meeting space, legal and technical resources and exhibition opportunities to emerging artists, curators and arts writers without current gallery representation or institutional employ. Via a continuing dialogue encompassing the theoretical and the practical, the group’s members share experiences, perspectives, preoccupations, challenges, and topics informing their ongoing artistic practice.

The goal of DCAC's SPARKPLUG is to identify superior artists, curators and arts writers without current gallery representation or institutional employ, provide an environment to help foster their development, provide legal, technical and other resources, and provide opportunities for them to exhibit both in DC and around the country.

DCAC's SPARKPLUG will actively seek its membership from all communities in the Washington, DC region with the goal of bringing together emerging artists and curators with a broad range of backgrounds and experiences, a diversity of professional preoccupations and creative visions.
